Leadership is the art of influencing.
First, a leader must identify values that they find important and live those values DAILY! Honesty, integrity, accountability, passion, determination, and hope are the key values which I find most Important. When you have identified your values, it is up to you to be responsible and live what you preach. Living by your values is one of the most powerful tools available to you to help you lead and influence others.
Second, I believe a leader should be knowledgeable and prepared. Leadership is a continuous and evolving philosophy so it is important to constantly be polishing your character strengths and identifying and improving on your weakness; by doing this, then you will be knowledgeable. Being knowledgeable ties into being prepared. Be prepared to answer questions effectively, take new directions, adjust the focal point, Most importantly, be prepared to support your mission and vision without hesitation.
Finally, be open minded to new ideas and trust your support group to get the job done without being overbearing or patronizing. The best leadership style is one that is adaptable to the situation so being open minded and accepting to changes is something that a successful leader must also master.
It is the ability to inspire others to do their best, give them purpose, guidance, and motivate them.
I feel that before a leader can be successful in dealing with others, they must be complete themselves.
